As a parent of three who now has three young grandkids, I know how travel and staying away from home can affect the family dynamic. And it definitely takes a toll on the kids. So, I wanted to share this kid activities guide with my guests and anyone else traveling to the South Bend area to hopefully introduce a little more family fun and reduce a little bit of travel stress.
So, here are my top suggestions for kid-friendly activities in South Bend, all of which have been approved by my own kids/grandkids.
SOUTH BEND PARKS

Howard Park
Howard Park is located in the East Bank Village and offers a state-of-the-art playground, ice skating ribbon, the Howard Park Public House restaurant, South Bend Chocolate Cafe To-Go, Event Center, and more.

Potowatami Park & Kid’s Kingdom
Potawatomi Park has two covered open sided pavilions for rent which each hold 100 people, and one larger pavilion which holds up to 300 people. All pavilions include water and large grills. Each picnic area is complete with tables and a grill and holds approximately 50 people.
Rum Villiage
One open-air, covered pavilion is available for rent. Each holds about 75 people, and offers electricity. The dog park sits within Rum Village Park which boasts beautiful scenery, an 18-hole disc golf course, playground, walking trails and a nature center.

Studebaker Museum
Your kids will love exploring the magnificent collection of historic Studebaker cars. The basement also features a kid’s play area and a fun walk-through history exhibit that outlines South Bend’s past.
Children’s Museum of South Bend
This is a completely hands-on learning experience for the little ones. It features plenty of puzzles, a little replica town, a burrow, a theatre, a toddler area, a play lab, and more.
POTOWATOMI ZOO

Potowatomi Zoo
Potowatomi Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in Indiana. The animal exhibits are great — especially the petting zoo for the little ones. They also have a family train ride that goes around the perimeter as well as a carousel, concessions, and a gift shop. The kids will have a great time!

Generations Adventureplex
Generations AdventurePlex is a 30,000 square foot multi-plex facility featuring 2 levels of food, fun, sports viewing and amusement attractions. We are located in the heart of Mishawaka, Indiana adjacent to the Cinemark Movies 14 Theatre on Edison Road.

Strike’s and Spares is a bowling alley/arcade with tons of family fun to be had. They offer glow bowling, tons of arcade games, glow-in-the-dark putt, go-carts, and a ninja warrior course.

Putt-Putt Fun Center
Putt-Putt Fun Center may not appear to be much from the road but we urge you to have an open mind. There are several mini-golf courses that are loads of fun (if you’re into mini-golf). They also have a small arcade inside with plenty of fun prizes to win.

Mega Play
Mega Play Family Entertainment Is 39,000 sq. ft. of fun for all ages and anchors Town & Country Shopping Center. We are located just a few miles east of the University of Notre Dame. Here, you will be immersed in the largest array of amazing digital and real-world games in the region. Be it racing cars, spaceships, saving the world from utter destruction or jousting with your best friend, you will find hours upon hours of good clean family fun at Mega Play.

St. Joseph County Public Library
While the new library is currently under construction, there will lots of fun for the entire family when it’s finished.
